Any name. Any reason.

Love, endings, family, or just finally feeling like you. It's your name, and you don't owe anyone an explanation. Not even me.

£45, one-off. Same price, whatever your reason.

Same form. Same £45.

The only thing your reason changes is the proof. You don't need to work out which one you need - the form does that for you.

  • Certificate Your marriage or civil partnership certificate Only for taking your partner's surname, or double-barrelling or combining both surnames. A phone photo is fine, and you get a free deed poll as backup.
  • Deed poll, included A deed poll, for everything else I prepare it and post it to you. You sign it with a witness, send me a photo, and I take it from there.

Love

Getting married or entering a civil partnership

  • Taking your partner's surname

The classic. A photo of your certificate is usually all I need.

    Certificate
  • Your partner taking yours

Husbands, wives, partners - anyone can take the other person's surname. Your certificate covers it.

    Certificate
  • Double-barrelling or combining

Both surnames, with or without a hyphen, in whichever order you like.

    Certificate
  • Blending into a new surname

Mainstone + Stein = Mainstein. A brand new name needs a deed poll, and I prepare it.

    Deed poll, included
  • Keeping your old surname as a middle name

Move it into the middle so it doesn't disappear.

    Deed poll, included

Endings

After a divorce, separation or annulment

  • Going back after divorce or separation

You don't have to wait for your divorce to finish, and your ex doesn't need to know.

    Deed poll, included
  • After an annulment or civil partnership ends

Works exactly the same. Whenever you're ready.

    Deed poll, included
  • Starting fresh with a new name

Not every ending means going back. Some people pick something brand new.

    Deed poll, included

Family

Family, heritage and the people behind your name

  • Taking a parent's or grandparent's surname

Your mum's name, your nan's name, whichever side feels like yours.

    Deed poll, included
  • Going back to a family name

Reclaiming your heritage, or a side of the family you've reconnected with. That's what I did with Akinyosoye.

    Deed poll, included
  • In memory of someone

Taking on the name of someone you've lost, so it carries on with you.

    Deed poll, included
  • Leaving a family name behind

If your surname comes from someone who doesn't deserve to be on every letter you open, you're allowed to put it down. No explanation needed, and nobody has to agree.

    Deed poll, included
Being you

Because it's you

  • Changing your first name

It never felt like you, or everyone already calls you something else. Make it official.

    Deed poll, included
  • Changing or adding a middle name

Add one, swap one, or add a few.

    Deed poll, included
  • Dropping a middle name

Too long, never used, or just not you.

    Deed poll, included
  • Making up a brand new surname

Built from scratch and meaningful only to you. Totally allowed.

    Deed poll, included
  • Transitioning

I'll change your name and your title everywhere I update. Gender markers aren't included yet, purely because I haven't dug into that process properly, and I'd rather tell you than half-do it.

    Deed poll, included
  • Just because

You like it better. That's a good enough reason.

    Deed poll, included

I've changed mine four times.

For family, for a wedding, and back again. So whatever your reason, I get it, and I'm not going to make you explain it.

Questions about changing your name

Anything else? Email hello@mynamechanged.com or DM me on Instagram or TikTok.

Do I need a reason to change my name in the UK?

No. If you're 18 or over, you can change your name for any reason, as long as you're not doing it to deceive anyone, like dodging a debt. You don't have to explain yourself to me either.

Can I make up a completely new surname?

Yes. You can choose a surname nobody else has. It needs a deed poll, which I prepare for you, and it's included in the £45.

Can I take my mum's surname?

Yes. Your mum's, your dad's, your nan's, any family name you like. It's done with a deed poll, and that's included.

Can I change my first name?

Yes. First, middle and last names can all be changed with a deed poll. I prepare it, you sign it with a witness, and I send your updates.

Can I remove my middle name?

Yes. Dropping a middle name needs a deed poll, which is included in the £45.

Can my husband take my surname?

Yes. Anyone can take their partner's surname after a wedding or civil partnership, and your certificate covers it. Send me a photo of it and I'll do the rest.

Can you change my name if I'm transitioning?

Yes. I'll change your name and your title everywhere I update, with a deed poll included. You don't need a Gender Recognition Certificate to change your name. I can't help with gender markers yet, because I haven't dug into that process properly.

Can I change my surname to distance myself from a family member?

Yes. You don't need to give a reason, and nobody else has to agree or sign anything. It's done with a deed poll, and that's included.

Does my reason change the price?

No. It's £45 whatever your reason, deed poll included if you need one. Pick one organisation or all of them, the price is the same.

Who can use it?

Anyone 18 or over in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. In Northern Ireland there are two exceptions for now: I can only update DVLA driving licences (not ones issued in Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland), and I don't update rates with NI Direct yet.

Your reason's good enough.

One form, about five minutes, £45. I'll do the rest.
